Benny Bay

October 11, 1929 — June 12, 2013

Benny Anderson Bay, 83, of Belton passed away on June 12, 2013 at a local hospital. He was born on October 11, 1929 near the Silver City community in Coryell County to Arthur and Laura Bay.

Benny and his loving wife of 58 years, Caroline, owned and operated Minimax grocery store in Belton for 35 years. After retirement from the grocery business he worked at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY and as a realtor in the Central Texas area.

Benny was committed to helping others and serving his community throughtout his life and served in leadership roles on the Belton City Council, Belton School Board, Central Texas Council of Governments, Association of United States Army, Belton Economic Development Committee, Belton Chamber of Commerce, and the Belton Senior Citizens Center Board.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Belton for 54 years, Masonic Lodge 166, American Legion Walton Walker Post 55, Belton Lions Club, and Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

His greatest joys in life were spending time with his family, travelling, playing golf, hunting and fishing,

A memorial service will be held 2 PM Monday, June 17 at Heartfield Funeral Home.

Benny was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Treva Brown.

Survivors include his wife Caroline, daughter Jennifer Smith and husband Pat of Austin, sons Richard Bay and wife Terrie of Belton, James Bay of Killeen, and John Bay of Cedar Park loving grandchildren Richard Bay, Jr., Ryan Bay, Laura Smith, Stephanie Smith, and Jordan Bay Great Grandson Greyson Bay brothers Cleo Bay of Killeen, Curtis Bay of Salado sisters Margurea Burns of Belton and Laura Sinclair of Devine.

The Bay family would like to thank all of our wonderful friends for the love and support you have shown and recognize the Scott and White hospice team, and especially the Santa Fe 3 South skilled nursing team for their outstanding care and attention.
