Benny Earl Wood, age 74, passed away Friday, January 03, 2024, in Temple, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Nolanville.
Benny was born on January 20, 1950, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He married Betty Sue McFarland on June 6, 1984, at Keys Valley Baptist Church in Belton, Texas. Benny grew up on Shady Oaks Poultry Farm in Nolanville. He graduated from Killeen High School in 1968. He attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville and graduated in 1972 with a BA in Industrial Arts and an ROTC commission to the US Army, where he attained the rank of Captain during his military service. After his military service, he attended Temple Junior College, where he took computer science. He retired from the Texas State Dept. of Health in 2007, where he worked as a computer programmer analyst. He was a member of Immanual Baptist Church in Temple and the Texas Baptist Disaster Relief Team.
Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth E. Wood and Pamelia Blair Wood.
Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Betty Wood of Temple; brother, Kenneth E. Wood (Virginia) of Duffau; sister, Connie Wood of Harker Heights; niece, Amber (Jack) Harper of Colorado Springs, CO; and nephew, Daniel Wood of Duffau.
A time of visitation will be held from 2-4 pm Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the funeral home.
