Funeral services for Clarence "Red" Alton Nelson, 87, of Belton will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton with Rev. Rick Lasly officiating, Burial will be held at Rock Hollow Cemetery in Belton.
He passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2018 at his home with his daughter, Ninna, by his side.
Red was born March 24, 1930 in Belton to the late Clarence Homer and Nina Bell (Howse) Nelson. He attended school in Belton. Red enlisted in the Army National Guard in August 1947 and was honorably discharged in June 1952. He worked as a salesman for Tom's, Sonny's Wholesale and Western Auto. He enjoyed farming, ranching and gardening and sharing his produce with his family and friends. Red was an avid outdoorsman and loved doing anything outside. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Red was a hard worker and a loving family man. His great-grandchildren lovingly called him "Bad Boy". He will be dearly missed by all who loved him. He was a lifelong resident of Belton and a member of Trinity Full Gospel Church.
Red married Lyndel Foster in Belton on September 18, 1951, she preceded him in death on December 31, 1985. He later married Gladys R. Stewart in March 1991.
He is survived by his wife Gladys Nelson; a daughter, Ninna Gay Crathers; 2 other children; 4 step-children; 7 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 17 step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 6-8pm on Monday, January 8, 2018.
