Charles Drake

December 18, 1947 — September 14, 2015

Charles Winford Drake, 67, of Belton Texas went home to be with his Lord on September 14, 2015. Charles was born on December 18, 1947, in Tulare, California to Charles (C.J.) and Virginia "Ruth" Drake. He was raised in Belton, Texas along with his 7 siblings. On December 18, 1967, his 20th birthday, he married Nell Hendricks also from Belton. During the first few years of their 47 year marriage, he proudly served his country, in Korea, during the Vietnam War. After his service, he went on to work at Shallow Ford Construction until his retirement in 2010, after 36 years of employment. He and Nell raised three beautiful children. His passion in life was fishing, but above that, was his family. If he wasn't on a bank with his pole in the water, you could find him standing along the fence at a ball field. Watching his children play the sport that made them happy, made him happy. His love grew even deeper as the family continued to grow, adding 9 grandchildren to the legacy of love. He was more proud of his family than anything in his life, even his fishing. He was preceded in death by his father CJ Drake; two brothers, Galen Drake of Belton and JL Drake of Ft. Worth and a sister, Charlotte Cehand of Belton. He is survived by his wife, Nell Drake; one son, Shayne Drake and wife Susie of Belton and two daughters, Brandi Tamplen and husband Darrell of Rogers, and Lacey Cantu and husband Scott of Belton; nine grandchildren, Blake, Clint, and Ty Tamplen of Rogers; Mason, Avery, and Mckenzie Drake of Belton; AJ and Ryker Peters and Gentry Cantu of Belton; mother, Ruth Drake of Belton; one sister, Paulette Hitt of Belton; three brothers, Anthony and Lawrence Drake both of Belton and David Drake of Valley Mills and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Thursday evening September 17, 2015, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton at 11:00 am on Friday, September 18, 2015, followed by a graveside service at North Belton Cemetery.
