Funeral services for Dr. Beatrice Huston, 86, of Temple are scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church in Belton with Rev. Darren Walker officiating. Interment will follow at North Belton Cemetery.
Beatrice was born on October 7, 1926 at Granbury to the late Charles W. and Clara Hambright Moore. She graduated from Granbury High School in the class of 1943 then graduated from Weatherford Junior College in 1945 and received her BBA from the North Texas State University in 1947. She then received her MA from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1952 and her Ed.D. from Baylor University in 1967.
Dr. Huston taught six years in public school then taught business and education courses at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor for thirty years. She held titles as instructor, assistant professor and professor. She served as Chairperson of the Business Department and Interim Dean of the School of Business. In the School of Business she revised the entire curriculum and instituted the first Bachelor of Business Administration Degree program.
Among her honors were, Distinguished Professor Teacher of the Year twice, listed in twenty biographical Reference books.
Beatrice was very active in Civic organizations, Eta Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Order of the Eastern Star, Business and Professional Womens Club, United Methodist Women Groups, Texas Business Education Association, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Lifetime member of the Baylor Alumni Association, the Texas Retired Teachers Association as well as numerous church groups at the First United Methodist Church in Belton.
She married Johnnie W. Huston on June 5, 1948 at Granbury and he preceded her in death on January 18, 1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents a brother, Morris W. Moore a sister, Audry Hair.
Dr. Huston died Tuesday evening at an area care center.
Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Schulyn and Thelma Huston of Temple and grandson and his wife, Michael and Shannon Huston of Midland.
The family will receive friends from 68 pm Friday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton.
