Gary Peter Mandroian, 67, passed away peacefully on April 26, surrounded by his family, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, Texas after a three-year battle with cancer.
Gary was born in Glendale, California on July 17, 1957, to Harold and Marie Mandroian. Older siblings, Richard and Nancy, anxiously awaited Gary’s arrival in their new La Canada home, custom built by their father. Gary attended Glendale Academy and Crescenta Valley High School.
Gary’s entrepreneurial spirit was recognized early as a youngster, a teenager, and again during the early days of computers. After marrying Denise Stanbach in 1978, he started a computer business in Sacramento, California, to support his growing family of young stepson Christopher and newly born daughter Candice (1980).
Gary was a certified scuba diver, avid snow skier, and photographer. His love and knowledge of Formula 1 car racing began early in life when his father took him to car races and explained how everything worked. Deeply seeded from those special times, Gary became an avid fan.
Returning to Southern California in the late 1980s, Gary worked alongside his brother Richard in his flourishing and expanding exotic hardwood business, Arroyo Hardwoods, in Pasadena. Following the sudden death of Richard in 2002, Gary moved to the Austin area to be closer to his daughter, where he remained.
Gary is preceded in death by his father Harold, mother Marie, and brother Richard. He leaves behind his daughter Candice (Charlie), his three grandchildren Joshua, Michael, and Alyssa, his sister Nancy (Mel), and his beloved nephews, cousins, and aunt and uncle.
