Glen Beauchamp

Glen Dale Beauchamp of Belton, age 91, went to heaven peacefully surrounded by his family at home on Monday, November 29, 2021.  His funeral arrangements include a visitation at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton on Thursday, December 9 from 4-7 p.m.  A full military interment is scheduled for Friday, December 10 at 10 a.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. A procession led by the Patriot Guard Riders will travel from the funeral home to the cemetery prior to the interment. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Belton.

Beauchamp was born in Rochester, Texas on November 15, 1930 to H.R. and Myrtie Beauchamp. He graduated from O’Brien High School and attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.  He finished a bachelor’s degree later at the University of Nebraska in Omaha, Nebraska. He married Carole LaVaughn (Crockett) Beauchamp on August 16, 1952 in Ventura, California. They had a son, Stephen Dale Beauchamp, in 1954 in Abilene, Texas, and fraternal twins, David Ray Beauchamp and Debra Kay (Beauchamp) Kirkland, in 1957 at Johnson Air Force Base, Japan. The Beauchamps have seven grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

Beauchamp retired from 22 years of military service with four years in the Navy (Point Mugu Naval Base in California, Korean War deployment), eight years in the Air Force (Dyess AF Base in Texas, Yokota AF Base in Japan, Beale AF Base in California), and ten years in the Army (Ft. Hood with two tours to Vietnam). His final military retirement was in 1973 at Ft. Hood, Texas. He and his wife and family lived in Killeen, Texas for 28 years where he worked as a Realtor for 13 years, was active in the Rotary Club, and attended First Baptist Church of Killeen. In 1992, he and his wife, LaVaughn, retired to the country outside of Belton, Texas. He served as deacon at First Baptist Church of Belton and was active in Sunday School leadership, Gideons, and senior activities. The couple celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on August 16, 2021 at home with their children hosting.

In recent years as Beauchamp’s health declined, he was cared for by his wife as well as caregivers from Tender Mercies and Visiting Angels. Since July 2020, Beauchamp and his wife have been comforted and cared for by nurses, aides, social workers, and Chaplain Gary Baxley from Amedisys Hospice. First Baptist Church of Belton friends and staff members have been faithful with prayer, visits, food, and support through the years.  Retired pastor Andy Davis will officiate at the memorial service along with Baxley. Retired First Baptist Music Director Gary Bledsoe and his wife Jayne will sing, accompany, and lead music. Church friend Janice Frazier will also sing at the service.

The Beauchamp family will gather with friends and other family members to celebrate his life in songs, words, and pictures during the memorial service.  Beauchamp is preceded in death by his mother and father as well as his sister, Janice Elrena Essary, and granddaughter, Anna Rebekah Beauchamp. He is survived by his younger brother, Cecil Ray Beauchamp, of Eastland, Texas. His legacy will live on in his wife and children along with their spouses, their children, and grandchildren. Son Stephen Dale Beauchamp and his wife, Linda, will attend from Burleson, Texas with their three children: Jennifer (Beauchamp) and Alex Hutchens of Justin, Texas; Michelle (Beauchamp) and Bob Smith of Ft. Worth, Texas; and Richard and Ilsa Beauchamp of Smyrna, Tennessee.  Son David Ray Beauchamp and his wife, Debbie, will attend from Kansas City, Kansas with three of their children: John and Ashley Beauchamp of Kansas City, Kansas; Sarah (Beauchamp) and James Doran of Temple, Texas; and Luke and Brooke Beauchamp of Oletha, Kansas. Daughter D. (Beauchamp) and Don Kirkland will attend from Belton, Texas. Several great-grandchildren will also attend. David Beauchamp’s daughter, Anna, is buried in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, where her grandfather will also be laid to rest.
