James William Berry, 89, of Belton passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at his residence. A visitation service will be held on Monday, January 20, from 5 7 pm at Heartfield Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Tuesday, January 21 at 10:00 am with the interment following at 12:00 at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
He was born on July 29, 1924 to Clyde William and Callie Karnes Berry in Tulia, Texas.
James married Georgia Virginia Palmer on September 30, 1944. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army as Private First Class of the 377th Fighter Squadron on February 1, 1946. He served in WWII and received decorations in American Theater, Good Conduct, and a Victory Medal. James was an airplane and engine mechanic on 747 while in the service, and was an awarding as carbine marksman. He was involved in paint and body work for many years.
James was preceded in death by his parents eleven siblings, Anna Sue, Frank Warren, Jo Nita, Donald, Douglas, Laura Mae, Margaret, Carl Clyde, twin baby girls and one baby boy.
Survivors include his wife, his son, James William Berry Jr. of Farmington, NM, two daughters Sue and spouse Eugene L. Current of Aztec, NM. and Dawn Dossey of Belton a brother, Bruce Merlin Berry of Montross, VA., three sisters Ruby Lee James of Claude, TX., Patsy Russell of Avalon, TX., and Mildred Ellerd of Santa Barbara, CA. nine grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Heartfield Funeral Home from 57 pm Monday evening.
