Joe Raymond Moore, 80, beloved husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and papa joe, passed peacefully from this life at his home in Belton, Texas on September 1, 2024. Services will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton, with a visitation starting at 1 pm and services immediately following at 3 pm.
Joe Raymond Moore was born May 23, 1944, in Temple, Texas to William Powell & Ruby Frances Moore. He graduated from Temple High School in 1962. After a brief stint at Temple Junior College, he tried his hand at selling shoes for CR Anthony and Co. He had spent many years running the back roads, hot-rodding with his many high school buddies and friends when his dad finally bought him his first set of tools. In 1964, he went to work for Paul Boyds Ford Dealership in Temple as an Auto Mechanic. After turning the wrenches until 1970, it was then he discovered his knack for salesmanship. With a bit of encouragement, his longtime friend and sales associate at the dealership, Doug Noack, convinced Joe to try his hand out front selling cars and there he found a lifelong passion for people. In 1979, he opened Joe Moore’s Auto Sales on Ave. M in Temple, Texas. In his off time, he found a love for the art of Racing Pigeons and spent many hours researching genetics and raising the next fastest flyers. In 1983, he met the forever love of his life, Calvinette, and they married in 1990.
He enjoyed many jackpot fishing tourneys, and Texas best bowling with friends. From drag strips around the country to stock car racing with his son at every “Round, Round” dirt track he could find, Joe had a knack for speed. Joe never met a stranger speaking to folks everywhere he went. From cotton farming to ostrich farming, he genuinely loved people. He continued his trade, selling real estate for Tejas Ranch Properties, and enjoyed other sales ventures to include many hours of memory making stories and lifelong friendships made over coffee gatherings at the round table of the old tobacco store, before retiring in 2010. In the spring he was planting hay, but when fall was in the air deer hunting was on his mind. He loved Gods Country and all it had to offer, but his pride and joy was the success of his children, grandchildren, and memories cherished with family and friends he would never ever forget.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving, and devoted wife, Calvinette, of 34 years; sons, Randall Wayne Moore and wife, Tracy of Arlington, and Keith Allen Moore and wife, Tara of Belton; daughter, Jo Anna Slone and husband, Chris of Little River; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren with one on the way; the loving care and devoted friendship of Shawna Thomas; and a lifetime of love for Michael Watkins of Belton.
The family would like to thank: Nikki Jones NP, Dr. Randall Trammell, Dr. Richard Beckendorf, Dr. Christian Cable, Dr. Philip Houck, Dr. Javier Banches, and Dr. Katherine Fiala; the Anticoagulation Clinic Staff; Mark and Staff at the Scott & White Belton Pharmacy; the Nursing Staff of STC 2, 3, 5, and 5 North for the many years of kindness, care, and compassion; and to our long-term supporters and encouragers Dawnita PT, and Ariana OT, we are forever grateful.
