John Paul Torres, Sr. was born on July 29, 1956 in Nueces County to Fernando and Leonarda (Morin) Torres. He passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 after a 5 year courageous battle with cancer.
John moved with his family to Belton when he was just 2 years old. He graduated from Belton High School in 1975. He worked at Fort Hood for 18 years as a carpenter and helped family and friends with remolding their homes. He was a perfectionist in his work and was always proud of the work he did. John loved spending time outdoors with his friends and family. He enjoyed fishing but his greatest joy was watching his grandchildren play sports and other activities. John was a very hard working and generous man who was always there to help and lend a hand. He will be remembered as the loving, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend that he always was.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, John Torres and wife Nicole, Elissa Guzman and husband Richard, Sr., Angela Wilhoite and husband Shawn; step-children, Ricky, Daniel, Nicholas, and Gina. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Kyle, Dylan, Jordan, Maddison, Savannah, Richard, Jr., Sophia, Nathan, Hailee, Elicia, McKenzie, Noelle, Ava, Victoria, Mariah, Hope and Savannah; 2 brothers, David Torres and Martin Torres; 7 sisters, Ester Voyles, Elizabeth Hix, Janie Hickock, Josephine Ruiz, Jesusa Morin, Julia Mars and Lupe; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Elias Martinez and Pete Lugo and 2 sisters, Helen Garcia and Mary Torres.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Belton with Mitzi Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at North Belton Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Monday, December 26, 2016 in the chapel.
