Johnnie Montgomery, Sr.

A memorial service for Johnnie "Joe" Montgomery Sr., 73, of Salado will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton with Donald Montgomery officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am.
He passed away on June 20, 2018 at his home.
Joe was born September 7, 1944 in Belton to Clinton and Lizzy (Thomas) Montgomery. He graduated from Belton High School in 1962. Joe was raised in Belton, he then lived in Houston for 20 years before returning to Central Texas. He was in the Air Force Reserves from 1962-1968 and was an associate member of VFW # 4008 in Belton. Joe married Jane Nesbitt in Houston on August 28, 1982, she preceded him in death in October 2013. Joe was a self-employed master plumber. He was a member of 3C Cowboy Fellowship in Salado.
Joe enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting, and bar-be-queing. He especially enjoyed being outdoors tending to his large garden and raising chickens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Lizzy Montgomery; his wife, Jane Montgomery; 4 brothers, Clinton, Martin, Mackey, and Sammy Montgomery and 2 sisters, Vernice Moon and Margie Forrester.
Survivors include 2 sons, Larry Montgomery and wife Kari and Johnnie Montgomery, Jr.; 2 step-sons, Donnie Nesbitt and Nicky Nesbitt; a step-daughter, Donna Nesbitt; 4 brothers, Lloyd, Jack, Donald and William Montgomery; 2 sisters, Kay Stapp and Sue Bross; and numerous grandchildren.
