Jose Pena, Sr.

A memorial service for Jose Luis Pena, Sr., 94, of Moody will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Belton with Rev. Jay Thomas officiating.
Mr. Pena passed away Thursday, September 8, 2016 at a local hospital.
Jose was born on May 7, 1922 in Tampico, Mexico to the late Luis Rodriguez & Josefina (Bustos) Pena. Jose entered the US Army in December of 1942 in Brownsville and retired as a Sergeant First Class in November of 1972 from Fort Hood. He was in the Army Medical Corp and served in World War II. After Army retirement he worked for Scott & White Hospital in Temple and Gatesville. He was a member of the American Legion and was a Catholic. Jose married Hazel Marie Hart on September 6, 1982 in Gatesville. In 1991 he moved from Dallas to Moody where he lived until his death.
Jose was a loving and dedicated family man. He loved to cook and his famous bar-b-que will surely be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Pena; a step-son, Charles West; sons, Jose Pena, Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Victor Pena and Ricardo Juan Pena both of Gatesville, Texas, Martin Felix Pena of Mesquite, Texas; a brother, Joaquin Pena of Houston, Texas and a sister, Teresa Maria Gallegos of Brownsville, Texas. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
