Jewel "Judy" Whitley, 84, of Temple passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. She was born in Bell County on May 11, 1933 to J.L. Cooper Jr. and Velma Forrester Cooper. She lived most of her life in Bell County, and also lived in Baytown for 16 years. Judy worked at Scott & White Hospital as a patient service specialist until her retirement. She was an active member of Midway United Pentecostal Church for several years where she taught Sunday school and played the piano. Although she was unable to attend church in more recent years, she always loved it and has stayed in contact with some of the older members.
In her spare time, Judy enjoyed quietly crocheting or playing a competitive game of Skip Bo or Uno. Above all, Judy loved spending time with her family. She loved Thanksgiving and always looked forward to a day full of good food and family. Judy was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
Judy was preceded in death by her father, J.L. Cooper, Jr; her mother and step-father, Velma "Snookie" and Floyd "Shug" Bridges; her brother, Donald "Buddy" Cooper and a brother-in-law, Perry Fairchild, Jr. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Charles Whitley and wife Nina of Austin, Elizabeth Whitley Petty, Lisa Muntz & husband Bill and Jennifer Wright and husband Lonnie, all of Temple; her sister, Fran Fairchild and sister-in-law, Barbara Cooper. She is also survived by her 10 beloved grandchildren and 6 precious great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Judy's life will be held at 2pm on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Belton with Donnie Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Greathouse Cemetery in Temple. The family will receive visitors starting at noon the day of the service.
