Katye Myrle Huey Brown, born May 9, 1928, passed away peacefully Friday at her home in Belton, Texas. She is survived by her children, Carolyn Beddow and husband Brian Beddow of Saint Jo, TX, and Michael Brown of Belton, TX; grandchildren, Paris Crosby of Saint Jo, TX; Travis Brown and wife Mary Kate Brown of Wimberley, TX, Emily Wiley and husband Chandler Wiley of Austin, TX, Brittany Beddow of Ruston, LA and Brianna Crenshaw and husband Corey Crenshaw of Lewisville ,TX; and great-grandchildren, Elise Brown, William Brown, Katelyn Wiley, and Colton Wiley. Katye is preceded in death by her husband, H. James Brown.
Katye (Myrle to her paternal relatives), along with her mother, left Belton her sophomore year in high school to live with her brother J.D. Huey in Baytown. She spent one year after high school at Southwest Texas Teacher's College, before moving to Austin to work one year in the State offices. Katye then left Texas for Washington, D.C. where she worked two years at the Commerce Department. She then returned to Texas, where she met her future husband in Houston.
Katye and Jim lived and raised their children in various Texas locations: Houston, Seabrook, Richardson, Plano, and Lake Kiowa, before moving to Belton in 1996. In recent years, Katye was an active bridge player in Newcomers, at Sammons, the Wildflower Country Club, and the Belton Senior Center.
She attended bible school at First Baptist Church of Belton.
A visitation and memorial service will be held Sunday, February 12, beginning at 2 P.M. at the Harper-Talesek Funeral Home in Belton.
