Margaret Sprott

Services for Mrs. Sprott will be at the Killeen Church of Christ on W.S. Young Drive in Killeen at 10:30 am, Saturday, July 26, 2014 with Boyce Edwards officiating. Burial with full Confederate Military Honors will be at held the same day at 2:00 pm at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Nolanville. Margaret died on July 20, 2014 in Dumas, Texas with her son near her side.
Mrs. Sprott was born November 5, 1920 to Daniel and Lena Mae Harrison at County Line community near the little town of Topsey, Texas in Lampasas County. When she was two, the family moved to a ranch nestled six miles North of Copperas Cove, Texas in Coryell County. Mrs. Sprott started to school at the country school of Antelope. Here she attended school through the first half of the fourth grade, 10 miles round trip each day on horseback. When the depression hit, the family moved to Killeen, Texas to a small farm 2 miles South of Killeen. Mrs. Sprott attended Old Avenue D. school until she graduated 3rd in her class in 1938.
Mrs. Sprott met Darrell Sprott in 1938. Darrell graduated from Texas AM the same year they were married in 1939. They lived in El Paso for one year. Then they moved to Coleman, Texas where Darrell went into private practice as a veterinarian. A year later they moved to Fort Worth. They enjoyed being there until Darrell was called into service when WWII hit. Darrell was a Lieutenant so he was called to service immediately. He was in the Pacific Theater for 2 12 years plus.
Margaret spent the war years at the Ranch living with Darrells parents. On March 27, 1943 Margaret and Darrell had a daughter and named her Jacqueline. On August 8, 1951 they were blessed with a son, Rocky Jim. Five weeks later on September 22, 1951 Darrell was killed in an automobile accident.
Following the death of Darrell, Margaret went back to school to get her degree. In May of 1957 she graduated from Mary Hardin Baylor. She then accepted a job from the Belton School System where she worked for 25 years.
Mrs. Sprott was active in the Church of Christ. She was church librarian for many years and helped build the church library with the help of her son Rocky Jim and daughterinlaw Janice. She gave lots of her time to church work and was faithful in church attendance.
Margaret Sprott was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell, her daughter Jacque, her parents Daniel and Lena May Harrison, her 3 brothers, Cecil Harrison, Craft Harrison, and John Wiley Harrison. She is survived by one son, Rocky Jim Sprott and his wife Janice of Stratford, Texas and 3 nieces, May Dean Brown of Copperas Cove, Texas, Dr. Ann Rosson of Kerrville, Texas, and Ramona Currin of Kerrville, Texas, and 2 nephews, Walter Harrison of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Alan Harrison of Bastrop, Texas and many other children of her nieces and nephews and their spouses.
