Mieko Shimoji Hill, age 80, of Temple, TX passed away peacefully at her daughter’s family home in California surrounded by her family on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
Mieko was born on November 12, 1943, in Miyako, Ryukyu Islands, Japan to Joshu and Hisai Shimoji. Mieko attended schools in Miyako. Mieko after completion of school moved to Okinawa. Mieko met the love of her life Aubrey in Okinawa when he was serving in the Marine Corps. They were married for 43 years and have two children. Mieko was a dedicated and loving mother to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. After her husband’s retirement from the Marine Corps in 1980, both decided to raise their children in Belton, TX.
Mieko worked in the service industry at a barbershop and in restaurants early on in her adulthood. After Mieko and her family relocated to Belton, she owned and operated a convenient store and auto repair center for 11 years with her husband. After raising her children, Mieko worked at Walmart for 10 years as a Garden Center Associate before retiring. In retirement, Mieko enjoyed spending time with her family, going to bingo, traveling to casinos occasionally with her friends, and working in her garden.
She is survived by daughter, Miyuki Hill Newhall and husband Robert of Cupertino, CA; sister, Tsunemi Taguchi and her husband of Okinawa, Japan; sister, Chieco Daulton and husband Daniel of Colorado Springs, CO; two grandchildren, Samantha N. Vaughan and wife Monique of Round Rock, TX and Andrew E. Newhall of Cupertino, CA; one great grandchild, Jackson Padilla of Round Rock, TX.
Mieko is preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey J. Hill and son, Rupert J. Hill.
Harper-Talasek Funeral Home of Belton will be conducting a viewing on Friday, March 29, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and chapel service on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton with graveside service immediately following chapel service at Bellwood Cemetery.
