Nicolas Diaz Lopez was born November 6, 1927 in McDade, Texas to Nicolas Lopez and Juanita Diaz Lopez. Nick married the love of his life, Mary Conde on September 18, 1954 in Granger, Texas. Being married for over 62 years, they created a wonderful life together. Above all else, Nick was a family man. The greatest joys in life came while with his beloved family. Nick also had a great love for animals and especially his favorite four-legged sidekick Mickey, whom was considered part of the family. He was a kind and gentle man that greeted everyone he met with a smile that would warm the heart. Nick had never met a stranger, and that is what made him a gem in our community. Simply, Mr. Lopez was a loving and caring person that enriched the lives of all those that he encountered along his way down the path of life.
Nick also loved to learn about and study WWII history. It was from his days in the army during the time of WWII that he gained the respect for and understood the significance of that time in our history as a nation. He served his country faithfully and honorably. Music was also important in Nick's life, he enjoyed listening to mariachi music and he liked watching Molly B's Polka Party on TV to listen to the great polka music and watch the people dance. He was known for his El Comino, it was one of his trademarks. Nick was a long time superintendent for Grigg's Equipment retiring after forty-two and a half years. Most of all he was known for his time spent as a Walmart Greeter. For 22 years he met us and our families with a smile and a kind word. He was a true icon of the Belton community. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
The family would like to especially thank the VA Hospital and Kindred Hospice for the wonderful care that the staff provided in this life transitioning time. The family would also like send a heartfelt thanks to all of his Belton Walmart family for their friendship and care over the many years.
