Myrlene G (Hunt) Smith went home to her final resting place Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Life Care Center of Haltom City. She was 94 years old.
Myrlene was born May 17, 1924 in the Union Hill Community of Bell County, daughter of John Milburn and Dora Gladys (Breedlove) Hunt. She was the 4th of 8 children including Margaret (Lerlin), Lois, Lillian, James Kenneth (Buster), Willie Lynn, Donal Ray (Bugs) and Oleta Sue.
She met the love of her life Clark Lavoy Smith and they married January 23, 1942. Their union produced 5 children and lasted until his death October 24, 2000.
While growing up she tended to her younger siblings, and often times stayed with the ill or infirmed. Her first job outside the home was with National Laundry in Belton, Tx at 18yrs of age. She was a dairywoman, waitress, worked at a local food market in Euless and retired from Trio Manufacturing in Euless where she was a quality control inspector. After retiring she enjoyed gardening and selling their homegrown produce at the local farmer's market in Gatesville. She loved to craft, sew, quilt, embroider, cook and visit with her children and grand-children when they visited. She enjoyed playing games such as 42 and Skip Bo and was a very enthusiastic fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers.
She is survived by 3 sisters: Lillian Wilhite of Belton, Willie Lynn and husband Robert Shirley of Casa Grande AZ, and Sue Sheppard of Dripping Springs; 4 children: son Marvin of Trenton, daughter Linda and husband Bill Bear of Haltom City, son Jerry and wife Sally of Bedford and daughter Cheryl Kane of Denison; 7 grandchildren: Malinda Bear of Irving, Shannon Smith of Bryan, William Bear Jr of Saginaw, Kirk Smith and wife Robin of Trenton, Brian Bear and wife Michelle of Ft Worth, Wendi Cassel of Keller, and Josh Smith of Euless; 9 great grand children: Ashley and husband Bryce Burk, Laynie Bear, Rachel and husband Richy Preston, Tristan Cassel, Monica and husband Tyler Mackey, Jordan Harmond, Koltin Bear, Sarah Smith and Kirk Smith Jr; one great-great grandchild Noah Preston; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by sisters Lerlin and Lois and brothers Buster and Bugs, her husband Clark, son Doc, daughter-in-law Janice and son-in-law Russ.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday October 27, 2018 at 1pm at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home at 503 N. Main Street, Belton, TX. Viewing and family night will take place on Friday
October 26, 2018 from 6-8p. Interment will be at Resthaven Cemetery off Shanklin Rd in Belton, TX.
