Nieves Hernandez Jr.

July 15, 1944 — September 15, 2017

Funeral Services for Nieves "Chuck" Hernandez Jr., 73, of Temple, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home of Belton. Burial will follow at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.

Mr. Hernandez passed from this life peacefully on Friday, September 15, at a local care facility while surrounded by his loving family.

Nieves Hernandez Jr. was born July 15, 1944 in Hardin, MT to Nieves and Francis Hernandez.

As a young man, Chuck dedicated his life to serving in the United States Navy. He served aboard the USS General WM Mitchell. After his time in the Navy came to a close he
settled down in the central Texas area to start a family with his beloved wife, Mary. Together they have raised seven wonderful children. It was this time in his life where he cultivated his faith and relationship with our Lord.

Mr. Hernandez above all else was a man of God. He was a pastor at American Baptist Fellowship Church of Temple. He was first called into the ministry as a missionary in Mexico. As a missionary in Mexico, Chuck helped build a children's home to give the children in the area shelter and care where they had none. He served the Lord and his church with all his heart. Chuck loved to help people. One of the many ways he did that was the leading bible studies at the jail in Bartlet, TX.

Outside of the church Mr. Hernandez was a wonderful father that treasured spending time with his family. He loved to travel and visit many churches on the way to where ever they were going. A particular trip that was a special memory was when they drove all the way to Honduras. He loved to go fishing with friends and family whenever he could. He also enjoyed watching old western movies starring John Wayne and TV series such as The Rifleman.

Mr. Hernandez was preceded in death by his parents and his four brothers, Johnny Reynaga, Louis Reynaga, Joe Reynaga, and Frank Hernandez.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 47 years, Mary Moreno Hernandez of Temple; sons, Monroe Hernandez of Temple, Arthur Hernandez of Waco, Teddy Hernandez of Little Rock, AR, Jose Hernandez of Temple; daughters, Cynthia Howe and husband Billy of San Antonio, Joann Weeks and husband Steve of Cameron, NC, Vicky Hernandez of Temple; sisters, Marie Hernandez and Linda Yost; as well as fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Creekside Terrace Rehabilitation for their excellent and compassionate care.
