Nilwon Whittington

Nilwon (Nil) Whittington, 86, died July 7th, 2015 in Scott and White Hospital, Temple, Texas.
She was born September 9, 1928, in Coolidge to Henry B. and Willie Weaver Nowlin. She married Harold Whittington on September 3, 1948, in Denton, Texas, and they moved to Temple in 1957.

Dr. Whittington earned a baccalaureate degree in speech and theatre at North Texas State University, a Master of Arts degree in oral communication at Baylor University, and a Ph.D. degree in communication from the University of Texas at Austin. She taught at Temple College, served on the staff of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in Austin, and retired from the Kansas Board of Regents, Topeka, Kansas, in 1988.

Dr. Whittington was preceded in death by her parents, her son Jeff Whittington, brothers Forrest Nowlin, Coolidge; Gordon Nowlin, Mexia and Henry Nowlin, Hearne. She is survived by her husband Harold Whittington.

Her body was cremated. Commitment services will be held at the Coolidge Cemetery Chapel in Coolidge, Texas on July 17th at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Rodger Weems officiating.
