Raymond Wells

Raymond "Deacon" Wells, 72, died Friday, January 20, 2017, at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 05, 1944, and raised in Belton, Texas where he graduated from Belton High School.

Deacon worked as a Fireman in Waco in the early 70's before moving to the Dallas Fort Worth area and working for Sears and Roebuck Co. for over a decade after which he pursued his passion and owned and operated a restaurant. In later years, Deacon accepted a management position at Amerifleet from which he retired in 2009 and returned to the Central Texas area.

Deacon enjoyed music and loved singing Karaoke at the Belton VFW. He also enjoyed spending time with friends, reading, playing golf, and was an avid football fan. Deacon had a kind heart, a sharp wit and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Deacon is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Gina Wells; daughter and son-in-law Misty and Dale Cook; his mother Pauline Kelley of Belton, his five grandchildren, Trevor Wells, Blake Wells, Lauren Cook, Kasey Cook and Micah Cook; his sisters, Maxine (Moy) Morse, Debra Kelley and Vicky McWhirter. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Paula Smith and Janet Bowden.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 26, 2017, at the Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Belton with Mike Baggerly officiating.

The family will receive visitors from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, in the chapel.
