Richard Dale

Richard "Dick" Nolan Dale passed away peacefully November 8, 2017 in a local nursing home after a long illness, with his wife and friends by his side. Richard was born May 24, 1934 in Winona, TX to Elbert Clyde and Augusta Nolan Dale. He grew up in Winona, Texas and graduated from Winona High School. He went on to attend University of Texas where he graduated with a degree in History and Government.
He was a Logging Engineer on oil rig owned by Baroid Well Logging in Houston, TX.
He served in US Army and attended Adjutant General School. He was assigned to 7th Army Headquarters in Germany for period of 3 years with a responsibility of processing Court Martials.
He was employed by United States Gypsum Company from 1959 to 1989.
His hobbies included: traveling, all types of hunting, yardwork, restoring old homes and most of all, spending time with family and friends.
Richard never met a stranger, and he loved life as much as anyone could. Richard visited Belton in 1968, as he served on Board of Trustees for University of Mary Hardin Baylor. He fell in love with Belton and in 1987 he made it his permanent residence.
In 1983 he married Pat Dale of Salado, TX. , they shared a loving and wonderfully happy marriage that ended way too soon.
Richard was 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Richard established, along with Bernetta Peeples, the Self Drive Tours of Belton, Salado and Temple, and the Belton Historical Tours. He was Vice President of the Bell County Historical Commission. He also restored several Belton Historic Homes, including the Miller-Curtis Mansion, which he purchased in 1973.
He is survived by his wife Pat of 34 years; his daughter, Teri Dungan and husband Tom of Great Falls VA; son, Richard Nolan Dale II and wife Jennifer of Cross Roads, TX; stepson, Tim Combs and wife Lee of Belton, TX; grandchildren, Thomas and Matthew Dungan of Williamsburg, VA, Megan Dungan of Great Falls, VA, Sarah and Rebekah Dale of Crossroads TX, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Augusta Dale, sister Edda Lee Mullins, brothers James Monroe and Roy Hugh Dale.
A memorial service and celebration his life will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Harper-Talasek Funeral Home, Belton, TX, to convey condolences or to sign the online registry please visit www.harpertalasek.com
