Robert Byrd, Jr.

Robert Reynolds Byrd, Jr. was born February 13, 1941 in Asheville, North Carolina to the late Robert R. Byrd Sr. and Margaret Mathis Byrd. He passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at a local care facility at the age of 77.
Robert graduated from Charles D. Owen High School in Black Mountain, NC. He served in the US Army from 1964 until 1966. He was a paratrooper and a Vietnam Veteran. He started working for UPS in October 1966 after returning from Vietnam and being discharged from the Army, and worked there for 23 years until his retirement in March 1989. He married Betty Joyce Fox.
Robert enjoyed bowling and watching wrestling. He was an avid football fan, his favorite teams were the Washington Redskins and the Texas Longhorns. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Heather Byrd; 2 grandsons, Triston Kade and Chace Jaylin.
He is also survived by a sister, Mary Wood and "sis" Carolyn Grogan.
No services are planned at this time. The body will be cremated and his final resting place will be at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen and in North Carolina with his parents.
