Obituary

Ronald Wayne Strickland was born in Transylvania, Louisiana, on December 20, 1942, and departed this world on June 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Ron entered the Army in 1967 and served for two years as a radio communications service technician, repairing radios for soldiers in the field in Vietnam. Ron lived in Shreveport, Louisiana, and Pflugerville, Texas, before finally settling down in Belton, Texas. In his youth, he earned several bass fishing trophies and bowling trophies because of his near-perfect bowling scores. Over the years, he worked as a welder, did maintenance and repair, doing auto repair and heating and a/c work on the side, and was a supervisor. He retired from Carpenter in Temple after working for over 20 years as a master electrician. He drove a school bus for Belton ISD for a number of years after retirement. After fully retiring, he rode a motorcycle and earned the nickname from his motorcycle group, Chisholm Trail Riding Club, “Quarter Tank”. He traveled extensively and enjoyed camping in his travel trailer. He also began singing karaoke and developed a list of over 100 songs that he enjoyed performing. His favorite activities were spending time with his best friend, Ron Parker, along with friends and family. He was an avid fan of football and auto racing. He also loved to sit on the back porch and watch the birds make their nests and the bunnies hop through the yard. He thanked God for each day that he was given. He was preceded in death by his father Walter Raleigh Strickland, Sr, his mother Hattie Mae Strickland, his brothers Walter Raleigh “Junior” Strickland, Jr and Russell Strickland, and his son Christopher Strickland. Ron is survived by his girlfriend of 16 years Jackie Curbow, his brothers Roger Strickland and Bruce (Jeannie) Strickland, his children Teresa (Richard) Bain, Charles Allen, Victoria Marsala, Vicky Addie, and Crystal (Charles) Tabony, his grandchildren Matthew Bain, Michael Post, Cameron Bain, Jacob Marsala, Julianne Johnson, and Erin Johnson, as well as numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Enhabit Hospice for their kindness, compassion, and dedication, especially Julia, Emme, and Sheila. He was dearly loved by everyone. And he is greatly missed.

Ron's family invites friends and family to join them for a time of visitation on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 1:00PM, at Harper Talasek Funeral Home in Belton, Texas. Following the visitation, a service will take place at 2:00PM.

Ron will be laid to rest at the Central Texas Veteran's Cemetery in Killeen, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 9:00AM.
