Ruben Lawrence Cox Sr. went to be with the Lord on June 23, 2014. He was born on November 3, 1928 in Nolanville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Galbreath his parents, Ruben and Emma Cox brothers, Lemuel, Allen, and Jerry and one sister, Daisy Thomas.
He is survived by his children, Barbara McClung Ruben and wife, Donna Wesley and wife, Debbie, and Deedra Knoll one sister, Mary Sue Walker and husband, Charles and numerous grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Lawrence was the owner of the 439 General Store in Killeen for many years. He loved his family, shared his knowledge of the Cox family genealogy and served many years as president of the Cox Miller Reunions. He also served as president of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association and was a member of the Bell County Historical Society. Pleasant Hill was named as a historical site in the National Registry because of his leadership.
He loved gardening and was honored as a lifelong Master Gardener by the Bell County Extension Agency. He taught gardening for the Juvenile Justice system in Killeen where he worked with youth. He was instrumental in establishing the Killeen Municipal Garden. He was honored for working with youth before the Texas Legislature.
Lawrence was a wonderful father, son, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved The Lord and honored him even in the midst of declining Alzheimers. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Heartfield Funeral Home, 503 Main St., Belton, Texas. The family will receive visitors from 5:307:30 on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the funeral home.
