Rufina (Ruby) Avila Ybarra, 97, of Belton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 11, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton, with burial to follow at North Belton Cemetery.
Born on July 10, 1928, in Robstown, Texas, to Vicente and Margarita G. Avila, Ruby lived a long and fulfilling life centered around family, faith, and community. She worked in various roles throughout her life, including at Baylor Scott & White Hospital, Levi Blue Jeans Factory, Baugh Shoe Factory, and Robstown Nursing Home, always known for her strong work ethic and warm spirit.
Ruby had a deep love for arts and crafts, and her home was always filled with creativity and color. She welcomed everyone with open arms and never let a visitor leave hungry. She cherished listening to Mexican rancheras and corridos and celebrated every holiday with joy. Ruby also had a love for garage sales, jewelry, and dressing stylishly.
Ruby is preceded by her parents, Vicente and Margarita Avila; son, Robert Ybarra Sr.; daughters, Dominga Ybarra, Eva Ybarra, and Ruby Ybarra; brothers, Simon Avila, Felipe Avila Sr., and Vicente Avila Jr.; sister, Adelina “Lily” Ybarra; and granddaughter, Victoria Ybarra.
Survivors include sons, Martin Ybarra Sr., Frank Ybarra, Johnny Ybarra, Henry Ybarra Sr., Victor Ybarra, and Hector Ybarra; daughters, Delia Peters, and Ruby Olivares; sister, Maria Quezada; 22 grandchildren; and multiple generations of great, great great, and great great great grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the funeral home.
