Scott Staggers

In a crowded room, Scotts' laugh could be heard above all the rest. From the various stages which he stood upon, he made hundreds laugh with his impeccable comedic timing. Even in more intimate settings, his humor was flawless, and his delivery vibrant. He truly wanted those who surrounded him to be entertained, enlightened and enriched. Backstage, however, he was daily forced to wage war against the dark shadows of his own depression. The fight against despair often required all the energy he could give, and eventually, it demanded more.

Scott Porter Staggers was born on April 27, 1975. In 1986 Scott's father, Grady O. Staggers began attending Cypress Valley Bible Church with his sons. That year, as a boy of eleven, Scott first heard the gospel and believed in Jesus Christ for everlasting life. That life remains with him even today.

After graduating from Marshall High school in 1992, Scott pursued and received a bachelor's degree in marketing from Texas A&M in 1996. As an alumnus, his love for Aggie football was no less loud from his living room than it had been when he attended games at Kyle Field Stadium in Aggie country.

In his early 20's Scott made the decision to go public with his faith. He was baptized on June 7, 1998. While he lived in Marshall, he remained very active at Cypress Valley Bible Church, by sharing his acting talent with the congregation and studying the Bible.

He worked at Staggers Oil Co. until 2001, after which he decided to pursue an acting career. That passion lead him first to Austin TX and then Los Angeles where he landed various roles. From staggering zombies to civil war soldiers, his film credits demonstrate his impressive range as a professional actor. After years of California sun, and the Hollywood lights, he was drawn back to Texas by something even more bright.

Leaving his acting career behind, he married Sarah Staggers (Goodding) in 2009. Once again, showing his versatility, he started a family, built a business, and nurtured an ever improving golf game. In 2015, Sarah and Scott moved from Austin to Belton, TX. That's where his daughter and only child, Charlotte Rose Staggers was born on October 7th, 2016. Since her birth, He had been learning to play guitar and would often sing to his young daughter and loving wife. No longer performing for crowds, he had traded in the spotlight to share his love and talents with an infinitely more adoring audience.

For the love of his wife and daughter, he fought hard to be the man they needed him to be. His charisma was palpable to any room he chose to entertain. His love was genuine toward everyone on whom he chose to bestow it. His charm was valiant to all those who were close enough to experience his warmth. The memories of his compassion will live on for a lifetime in those who loved him.

Scott had an enviable life. He had a prospering career, enjoyed the love of a committed wife, and basked in the laughter of his infant daughter. Yet, he decided to leave it all behind.

On April 16, 2017, Scott took his own life. In death, he has now experienced life in Christ.

Jesus, Scott's savior, once said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live."

Though he lost his war against depression, he found the victory of eternal life in Jesus. The family will miss him, and remember him fondly until they are reunited once again.

Scott was proceeded in death by his father, Grady O. Staggers; his grandparents Frank & Marie Bowers, and Melvin M. & Lucille Staggers.

He is survived by his wife and daughter Sarah & Charlotte; his mother and step father Boots & Charles Oliphint; his parents-in-laws John & Cindy Goodding; his brother Morgan Staggers; his brother's family Cal, Becky & William Grady Staggers; his step-siblings Karen Oliphint, Janey Flannagan, Ryan Grant, & Rory Grant; his brother in law Micah Goodding; his brother in law, sister in law and niece Lucas, Kristah, & Eily Kitchen; his cousins Allen & Cheryl Staggers, and Fort Staggers; and a large extended family.

The memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm at Cypress Valley Bible Church in Marshall, TX. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cypress Valley Bible Church children's ministry, or 289 Design through Cypress Valley Bible Church.
