Betty J. Wilson, age 91 of Temple, passed away Monday, July 20, 2020 at a local care facility. Graveside services will be held at 10 am Friday, July 24, 2020 at North Belton Cemetery in Belton.

Betty was born on October 20, 1928 to Emmett and Mary McCann in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Bellaire High School, received her Bachelor of Education from University of Mary Hardin Baylor, received her Master of Education from Baylor University and also received her Child Development Endorsement from Texas Woman’s University. She taught Home Economics at Van Alstyne and Round Rock High School, and also taught Home Economics and Child Development at University of Mary Hardin Baylor. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, Mended Hearts, Retired Teachers, American Association of University Women and the American Legion. Betty was a long time educator and loved to share her love of teaching with others. The knowledge she shared will forever be a legacy to her hard work and caring nature. She will be missed by so many that were touched by her generosity and love.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Mary; her loving husband, Joseph E. Wilson; brother, Harold McCann and wife, Mary; brother, Jerry McCann and wife, Nan; and great-grandson, Chase Madewell.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her daughter, Betty Jo Watson and husband, Bruce; daughter, Margaret Reynolds and husband, Larry; daughter, Judy Bates and husband, Melvin; son, Joseph Wilson Jr. and wife, Christy; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Betty’s honor to the American Heart Association and to the American Diabetes Association.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Meridian Health Center, Amedesis Hospice, and especially to Phylis Welch.

Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton is in charge of arrangements.
