Belton

Mary J. McClain, age 93 of Belton, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton with Pastor Mike Baggerly officiating.  Burial will be at Temple Garden of Memories in Temple. A time of visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Monday, June 28, 2021 at the funeral home.

Mary was born June 17, 1928 in South Charleston, Ohio to Oliver and Clara Hix. She married George McClain Sr. on November 14, 1946 and they shared 48 years of marriage. They had two children, George and Beverly. Mary did childcare in her home until moving to Texas in 1994. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ in Belton. She loved her church and was a faithful member in support and prayer. Mary loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! She read her Bible several times every day and had read it through numerous times. Mary prayed to her Lord for everyone. Her favorite place to go was church. Mary was a second mom to many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spent her life serving her family and others. Her hobbies were doing word search puzzles, making sure the birds had plenty of water, reading her bible, praying and watching her favorite shows, Wheel of Fortune, Judge Judy and the news. Mary loved flowers, (especially yellow roses), ice cream (Black Walnut) Chicken legs and hot dogs. She enjoyed her morning coffee and reading the newspaper daily.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Clara Hix; husband, George McClain Sr.; brother, Maxwell Hicks; brother, George Dodds; and daughter, Beverly Surbaugh.

Those left to cherish her memories are her son, George E. McClain Jr. and wife, Debbie; grandson, Timothy McClain; great granddaughter, Nicole Santiago; great grandson, Nicholas McClain; and great great grandchildren, Blake, Blaine, Erica, Kayla, Braylee, Michael, Anthony and Joshua and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Pastor Lucille Washburn, Pastor Mike Baggerly, the nursing staff that cared for our Mom till the end with love, and our family and friends for all their prayers and support.
