Paul Haire, age 76 of Belton, passed from this life Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Baylor Scott & White Heart Hospital in Plano, Texas.

Paul was born to James Bronson Haire and Lucille Elizabeth Smith on August 2, 1946, in Port Neches, Texas. He graduated as student council president and Valedictorian of his class at Bridge City High School in 1964 and graduated from Baylor University in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. After serving two years in the U.S. Army, he earned his master’s degree in library science from the University of Texas at Austin. He worked in the library at Temple College for over 35 years before retiring. Paul was a voracious reader and a junkie of all things relating to politics.  He was extremely intelligent and had a vast vocabulary. Over many years he rescued and cared for numerous stray and feral cats.

Paul is survived by his sister, Brenda McAfee of Houston; brothers, Jim (Gail) Haire of Seguin, and Dennis (Beverly) Haire of Canyon Lake; nephews, Michael (Emily) McAfee of Austin, Kyle (Cortney) Haire of San Antonio, Eric Haire (Lindsey) of San Angelo, and Andrew Haire (Cassie) of League City; niece, Kelly Bryant of Pasadena; and numerous great nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph Episcopal Church in Salado on Saturday, February 11 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local animal shelter.
